You needto focus

A product manager for a corporation of two, where the products are your goals.

It runs the cadence — a daily check-in, a weekly demo, a retrospective, planning — and keeps an honest record of what was committed versus what landed.

CYCLE 07 SAT

Two people · One week at a time

01 — The daily check-in

Sixty seconds,
and yesterday closes

What you said you'd do is quoted back as the first thing you see. Dictate or edit — you never write from blank.

Daily · about sixty seconds

You said you'd
“Send the revised draft for review”
What moved
What's next
Anything blocked

Then it closes. No summary screen, no well done, no suggestion of anything else to do.

02 — The weekly cadence

Sunday to Sunday

Three acts, in a fixed order. You cannot plan honestly before you've reckoned, or reckon before you've shown.

Sunday

Cycle 07

  1. I Demo 15 min
  2. II Retro 10 min
  3. III Plan 10 min
Show one thing per goal. Not a status update: a thing that exists now that did not exist last Sunday.

Demo is the load-bearing ceremony. Everything else exists to make that one honest.

03 — Two goals each

The cap is the
whole idea

Two active goals per person. A shared goal costs a slot from each of you. Everything else waits in the icebox — visible, and explicitly not being worked on.

Active 2 / 2

Half marathon Finish under two hours
Pottery studio Twelve pieces fired

Both slots are full

Starting Learn Spanish means one of these goes to the icebox.

  • Half marathon
  • Pottery studio

There is no override and no continue anyway. Name the trade, or back down.

04 — The honest record

Committed,
and then completed

At the retrospective the record is sealed. You cannot mark last week's miss as done, edit a past check-in, or delete a cycle.

The reckoning

Pattern

Third cycle running that “call the contractor” has slipped.

P

Days blocked on each other  Y 0  P 6

It shows you the pattern neither of you would have spotted alone — and where shared work has quietly become one person's.

Within five cycles you know your real throughput. It is about a third of what you'd have guessed.

05 — Plans that break themselves down

A goal becomes
a week of work

Describe a goal in a paragraph. It comes back as epics and stories with observable finish lines. You accept, edit, or throw it out — nothing is saved until you do.

Proposed

Half marathon

Finish under two hours

  • EpicBuild an aerobic base
    • StoryTwenty kilometres a week for a month
    • StoryResting heart rate under 55
  • EpicRace-pace work
  • EpicTaper and race day

It runs on your phone. Your goals, your check-ins and your retrospectives are never sent anywhere to be read by a model.

And it never invents goals for you. Suggested goals are how you end up with nine of them again.

06 — What it won't do

Never reward activity.
Only outcomes

Most habit apps reward engagement with the app instead of progress on the goal. That is how they become one more thing competing for your attention.

  • No streak for opening the app
  • No congratulation for checking in
  • No badge for a full week of entries
  • No progress bars that fill from motion
  • No scoreboard between the two of you
  • No red for late, no green for done
  • No suggested goals, no template library
  • No notification that guilts you into opening it

It celebrates two things: finishing a goal, and dropping one on purpose. Both are wins.
